There’s a variety of factors that lead teens to depression such as been bullied at school, which alters lower grades, bad relationships with the parents, and withdrawal from others. This article states that suicide is the third leading cause of death in 11-18 year olds, most of them who had been dealing with depression. Studies show that most of teens did not look for help dealing with their depression before their suicide. This source is important to my research because it will help me compare depression and suicide between different states and the country as a whole.

As if being an adolescent isn’t hard enough with all the physical changes we deal with we go through emotional changes too. Everyone goes through good and bad situations but sometimes when we go have our bad situations we sometimes stay in that downer. The article states some of the symptoms a teen might have if they are going through depression such as anxiety, irritability, anger and etc. It also describes two different types of depression, major depression and dysthymia. This source is important for my research because I can use it to explain the symptoms, types of depression and treatments stated.

It is always a good idea to be informed about the factors that can lead to suicide. Knowing these factors can prevent someone or yourself from committing suicide. “The tragedy of a young person dying because of overwhelming hopelessness or frustration is devastating to family, friends, and community”. This article can be useful for both teens and parents. It informs the parents on how to detect if their child has depression and what things to keep locked or hidden to prevent their child from using to commit suicide. Its useful for teens because it provides information on where and how to seek help. This resource is important to my research because it is filled with facts such as signs about depression and reasons why a teen might be going through depression.

Although the main audience are the parents and teachers this article should be read by teens too. Even if the teen isn’t going through depression it could inform then about it and be able to help a friend that might be going through it. Smith, Barston and Segal state the difference between teenage and adult depression which can be useful in my research because not a lot of people know that there are differences in depression as you age. It is also a useful source because the authors explain the effects of depression on teens, teen suicide signs and how to talk to a teen going through depression.

Most teens that commit suicide or try to they do it because they don’t know how to deal with a certain situation and think this is the best way out of it. Most suicides are caused by depression. The article explains why teens might try to commit suicide such as physical and emotional conditions, abuse of alcohol and drugs, suicide warnings, what to do if your thinking about suicide, what to do if someone you know is thinking about committing suicide and how to deal with your problems. This source is important to my research because it provides a lot of tips on how to deal with suicidal thoughts.

Authors explain a study they did and explain their results. Provide many facts based on results. Important to my research because it will provide actual facts on an actual study that was done.

King, Strunk, and Sorter stated “Suicide ranks as the third leading cause of death among youth aged 15-24 years”. Most schools try their best to help the students prevent suicide. They did a study and found out that most teens don’t start thinking about suicide until about 3 months into their depression.
